Choosing a ring that you are going to wear for the rest of your life is a big deal. It is HUGE. Girls will already have their engagement ring and will look for a wedding ring to match or compliment this but chances are that most guys have never even worn a ring before and have no idea which style/metal they should go for – should you include diamonds and an engraving? Who knows!?!
Fear not, the very helpful guys at Wedding Rings Direct are here to guide you through the different options available to you and have some alternative options to suit a range of budgets. So, I’ve asked them some probing questions which I hope will help you to choose your perfect ring.
Which are the most popular metals used for wedding rings?
Platinum is the most popular precious metal brides and grooms choose for their wedding rings. However, palladium as an alternative to platinum is also a precious metal couples are purchasing, due to it being cheaper and not requiring rhodium plating like white gold. Titanium is also becoming really popular with grooms due to it being lightweight and hardwearing.
What are the different qualities/benefits of platinum, titanium or tungsten wedding rings compared to other metals?
Platinum is the most prestigious and rarest precious metal, it’s a low maintenance alloy as it doesn’t require rhodium plating (unlike white gold). It’s extremely heavy and strong which is perfect for brides and grooms with the budget for a wedding ring that will last a lifetime.
Titanium is extremely cost-effective, hardwearing, light weight and hypo-allergenic alloy. However it isn’t a precious metal so won’t be hallmarked.
Tungsten is another heavyweight and hardwearing alloy, however due to this it’s very brittle. Tungsten is extremely scratch resistant, however it’s not a precious metal therefore won’t be hallmarked.
Have you seen a move in the trends for men’s rings?
Men are definitely more into alternative alloys such as titanium and zirconium, whereas women tend to go for more traditional precious metals such as platinum and white gold. These alternative alloys are hardwearing and cheaper, so often suit men who have never worn a ring before. We speak to a lot of grooms that have never worn a ring before and often hear “wow, that feels weird” when they try a wedding ring on for the first time.
How much does a personalised engraving cost?
Engraving a message or date inside a wedding ring starts from just £24 per ring. We can normally fit up to 30 characters however this is dependent on finger size or if there are diamonds set through the ring. We can engrave most things on the inside or outside of the band, and have several different methods and styles of doing this, for example: machine, laser or hand-engraving.
The lead time for orders is usually 2-3 weeks from the date the order is placed. Many rings will have the option for express service as another feature on the website. As all rings are made to order, not all items can be manufactured quickly.
